Bristol Cars collapses into administration

Bristol Cars has collapsed into administration, it emerged overnight. The curio car maker from Bristol just couldn't make ends meet as sales dried up and the company's directors were forced to call in the administrators when it couldn't afford to keep the business alive.

Recovery specialists RSM Tenon are handling the administration and hope to find a buyer for Bristol as a going concern. Cars will still be sold and serviced during the process, but a spokesman confirmed that all 20 jobs had already been lost at the Bristol factory, as well as two of the seven in the London showroom.

If a Nissan 370Z the electric boogaloo with a Leaf, the lovechild would be the Nissan Esflow. The two-seat Esflow is a rear-wheel-drive electric sports car that promises its only emissions will be some why-so-serious smiles.

A pair of electric motors sits above the rear wheels. Power from these units is sent independently, meaning the Esflow utilizes one engine per drive wheel. This, Nissan says, allows the Esflow to precisely meter out the torque and turn it into powerful forward acceleration. Thanks to this system, Nissan says Esflow will run from 0-62 miles per hour in under five seconds.

For those who feel that the Mercedes SLS AMG is a bit wet, Brabus has come up with the answer at the Geneva motor show: the SLS-based Brabus 700 Biturbo.

As with all the most exciting products that emanate from the Bottrop-based firm, the 700 Biturbo is basically a Mercedes with the volume turned up to 110 per cent. The car's performance figures are therefore pretty epic: a 213mph top speed (up 16mph on the 'regular' SLS), 0-62mph in 3.7secs (an improvement of a traction-limited 0.1secs) and 0-124mph in 10.2secs.

So here at last, after the teaser shots and development viral videos, is the new FF, or 'Ferrari Four' (so that's Ferrari-Ferrari Four, to give it its rather uncomfortable full name).

The FF is Ferrari's response to feedback from frustrated 612 Scaglietti owners who had to leave their cars in the garage when it came to skiing trips. They wanted a more practical 'big' Ferrari, and with 450-800 litres of luggage space, their requests have been answered.

Porsche has revealed its new Panamera S Hybrid. It's the sixth version of its sports saloon, which despite attracting some scepticism upon launch, has proved a huge success: after less than a year and a half on sale, 30,000 have found homes worldwide, over 1000 of those being in the UK. And this more environmentally-minded iteration should only serve to fuel those sales figures. The hybrid version of the Porsche Cayenne accounts for one fifth of the SUV's registrations.

The rear-drive Panamera S Hybrid gets the same powertrain. It comprises a 329bhp 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine and a 46bhp electric motor, the latter hooked up to a nickel metal hydride battery, which is topped up by energy recuperated during braking and driving. 0-62mph takes 6.0sec, while the top speed is 168mph.

Russia's first ever sports car was in London last week and we were there to have a look. The Marussia B1 was at the launch of the Marussia Virgin Racing F1 car at BBC Television Centre sharing the Studio One stage with F1 drivers Timo Glock and rookie Belgian Jerome D'Ambrosio (already nicknamed Custard). Also in front of the cameras was David Croft ('there's been a cock-up, they said get that DC bloke who commentates on the F1 for the BBC...') and the founder of Marussia, Nikolay Fomenko, who is Russia's equivalent of Jeremy Clarkson.

Porsche is working on a longwheel-based Porsche Panamera for the US and China.

In a move to better appeal to North American and Chinese customers, Porsche is developing a long-wheelbase version of its Panamera, to effectuate greater rear-seat legroom in the vehicle. The 115-inch Panamera wheelbase will be extended to 120 inches. The long-wheelbase S-class boasts 124 inches.

The prototype uses 240 electron-powered ponies from motors attached to front and rear axles to give it all-wheel-drive sure-footedness and the ability to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.3 seconds. It packs a 29-kWh battery pack, which should give a solid 100 miles of low-CO2 uber-mobility per charge. All of its electro-tech is said to be sourced from its Volkswagen parent.

This is the latest Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, the 2011 version of the famed German sports car company's range-topping GT racer.

The 911 GT3 RSR's 4.0-litre flat-six engine now produces 449bhp (five whole horses more than the 2010 version) thanks to ECU tweaks, a redesigned exhaust system and a modified air intake housing. Maximum engine revs are a stratospheric 9400rpm, of course it's rear-wheel drive, and the gearbox is a six-speed sequential unit.

It was only a matter of time before some inventive soul set about curing what ails the 2011 Honda CR-Z; namely, the anemic hybrid drivetrain. It looks like the crew at LHT Performance have gutted the electrified bits and swapped in an honest all-star from the Honda stable – the K20. If you recall, these guys were among some of the first to pull a similar stunt with the first-generation Honda Insight. According to LHT, their creation is the first successful K-Series CR-Z swap to have every vehicle system work as it should, including power steering, air-conditioning and cruise control, along with stability control and the vehicle's anti-lock brake system.

AMG boss Ola Kallenius revealed to the press at the LA motor show that two AMG models will get treated to a hardcore 'Black Series' makeover in the 'very near future'. Kallenius didn't go into any further details about the new cars, but prototypes of what could be a Black Series C63 AMG have been spotted testing in Germany.
