I want to advertise my vehicle on Autotrader.ie, what advertising options are available to me?

You can place PRIVATE or TRADE adverts via the website for cars, bikes, trucks, vans, plant, and, farm machinery. Adverts will be placed on our website, and can also be placed in the weekly Auto Trader magazine.

I'd like to place an advert in the Cars Northern Ireland section of the Auto Trader Magazine.

All private adverts for the Cars Northern Ireland Section are sold through our NI office. You can contact them on 0044 2890372800, and a member of our classified team will be happy to help you.

What is the ‘Hold ‘til Sold’ offer?

‘Hold ’til Sold’ is exactly what it says – your advert will stay on the website until you sell your vehicle!

This offer is only available to Private advertisers, placing adverts for cars, bikes, trucks, vans, plant, and, farm machinery vehicles.

Your advert will need to be renewed every 3 months. Renewal is free of charge. We will send you a reminder email before the advert expires and you can renew the advert by clicking on the link provided.

What is the 'Transform your car into cash offer'?

'Transform your car into cash offer' is our bargain package for private advertisers selling cars at a value of less than €2999. This offer is also 'Hold 'til Sold' which means your advert will stay on the website until you sell your car!

Your advert will need to be renewed every 3 months. Renewal is free of charge. We will send you a reminder email before the advert expires and you can renew the advert by clicking on the link provided.

How can I advertise a caravan, motorhome or boat?

Are there any key points I should include in my advert?

  • Photographs are an important feature of any advert. These give buyers a chance to look at your vehicle before contacting you. You can add up to 9 photographs on the website, and up to 3 images* in a magazine advert. Show off the exteriors and interior to best advantage.
  • Vehicle description is also important. Don’t forget to include colour, mileage, service history, number of owners, condition, NCT detail, road tax, and key features; these all help to make your vehicle appeal to buyers.
  • Features: Highlight a few important features such as, low mileage, few previous owners, long NCT, low tax; anything you think will improve your vehicle's value.
    You can add up to 1,000 characters to your website advert; you may need to edit this text for your magazine advert. You can edit the text for your internet and magazine adverts separately.
  • Price: Be realistic about price. Browse the website for similar vehicles. This will give you a good idea of the price you could ask for your vehicle.

How do I add a photograph to my advert on the website?

You can add a photo during advert placement, or afterwards, by logging into your ‘My adverts’ page. Uploading a digital photograph to your advert is simple. Images must be a minimum of 640x480dpi and in jpeg format and landscape in orientation. During advert placement, you can add your pictures at step 2. Click on ‘Add Photos’ and you will be guided through the picture selection process.

Once your advert is live, you can add more, or change your photos.

The photograph should be a true representation of the advertised vehicle. We cannot accept adverts supplied with stock or library photos, nor can we accept 'cut-outs' or montages. Auto Trader reserves the right to remove such photos from adverts placed for publication on the website, or, in Auto Trader magazine.

When will my advertisement appear on the website?

We subject each and every advert to close scrutiny before it is passed for publication on our website. While this means there may be a slight delay in publishing your advert, this allows us to ensure that we bring our customers genuine adverts, from genuine sellers.

Adverts placed between 9am Monday and 5pm on Friday via the Autotrader.ie website should appear on the website within 24 hours under normal circumstances. Adverts placed between 5pm on Friday and 9am on Monday will be published on the next working day.

On bank holidays or other public holidays, adverts may take a little longer to appear on the website. These will appear on the next available working day.

Once your advert has been accepted on to the website, a confirmation email will be sent to you with details on how to amend your advert once it's live on the website.

When will my advertisement appear in the Auto Trader magazine?

Normally, adverts placed before 4pm on Monday each week, will be published in the magazine on sale the following Thursday.

On bank holidays, or other public holidays, advert deadlines may change. For current magazine deadlines, please contact our support team on 01 4490650 between 9am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday.

I can’t log in to my account

How do I make a change to my advert?

Once your advert has been accepted on to the website, a confirmation email will be sent to you with details on how to amend your advert once it's live on the website.

Please do not delete this email, as it also gives instructions on how to remove your advert from the website when your vehicle is sold.

Amendments to adverts for inclusion in Auto Trader Magazine should be completed by 4pm on Monday each week (except on bank holidays). Amendments will be take effect where there are still insertions to be published in the magazine.

I want to change either the make, model or contact details in my advert.

These details cannot be amended on the website. You should call us on 01 4490650 and a member of our team will be happy to help with appropriate changes to your advert.

 

I’ve made text changes in my advert but they haven’t taken effect.

Once you have amended your advert, you must select the ‘Confirm Changes’ button. Please ensure you complete ‘Step 5’ of your advert. You will receive confirmation that your changes have been made and will go live shortly.

 

I’ve changed some photographs in my advert but they haven’t taken effect.

How many views has my advert had?

You can see how many views your advert has had by logging into your account on Autotrader.ie, and going to your ‘My Adverts’ page. Once there, you will see your advert(s). Providing your ad status is ‘live’, the number of views is listed beside the price of your vehicle. If your advert is waiting to go live, this figure will not be visible.

This applies to trade and private adverts.

I’d like to keep my advert live on the website, or in the magazine, for a little longer.

You will receive an email two days before your advert is due to expire. The email will ask whether you would like to delete, or re-book, your advert. Click on the link provided, and follow the steps to delete, or re-book, your advert.

My vehicle is now sold, how do I remove my advert from the website?

Once your advert has been accepted onto the website, a confirmation live email will be sent to you with details on how to delete your advert when it's live on the website.  

To delete your advert from the website log in to your account, then click on the ‘mark as sold’ option to the right of the vehicle you wish to remove. This will remove the advert from the website within 24 hours. 

If you placed the advert with a member of our sales team, please call us on 01 4490650, and we will remove the advert for you.

I’m having problems with my credit card payment

At present we accept Laser, Visa, Visa Debit, MasterCard and Visa electron payment cards issued by Irish banks. Check where your card was issued. Is the card in date. Did you enter the correct information?
