5. Duplicate Advert Email Scam

It has been brought to our attention that there is scam targeting sellers on our sites.

This particular scam targets the seller in the following way:

A ‘concerned person’ emails the seller informing them that:
1. Their advert has been duplicated
2. If the seller clicks on the link in the email it will show them the duplicated advert
The email may also show suspicious contact information :

Name: John O'Malley
Phone No: 0871234567

Our advice:

    • Never click on a link from an unknown source
    • If you have any queries on this please call our Digital Support Department on 01 4490650

6. Escrow Scam

It has been brought to our attention that there is a scam being used to target individuals as follows:

A potential (genuine) buyer emails the (scam) ‘seller’ regarding a specific vehicle that they have seen on the site.

The ‘seller’ then returns an email to the potential buyer claiming that the vehicle is overseas and the ‘buyer’ must pay a deposit/transfer before the vehicle will be shipped to them. In order to make this payment/transfer the potential buyer must click on specific website link that is in the email from the ‘seller’.
When a (genuine) buyer responds to this email by clicking on this link they will notice that the link collapses after a few days and the ‘buyer’ is unable to find the payment site again or contact the (scam) ‘seller’.

Our advice:

  • Some scam links and sites try to disguise themselves by adding our name to their site links, for example, www.carzoneautosecurity.com. Auto Trader and Carzone are not affiliated in any way to other sites that may mention our name.
  • NEVER click on a link from an unknown source.
  • If you have any queries on this please call our Digital Support Department on 01 4490650

  5. Auto Trader and Carzone provide an advertising facility for vehicles. We DO NOT offer any payment management services for buyers or sellers.
